(3) Research Study on Stockpiling of Petroleum Products
After the Great East Japan Earthquake, the government amended the Oil Stockpiling Act to prepare for oil supply shortages in the event of disaster by increasing the proportion of oil products in the national stockpiles. To achieve this, more detailed technical findings on the quality degradation of petroleum products during long-term storage should be prepared.
JPEC, with the support of METI, has been conducting a survey on oil stockpiling systems, current status and quality management techniques in European countries and Korea. In addition, JPEC has been conducting laboratory storage tests using gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, fuel oil A and aviation turbine fuel samples to investigate the detailed information on the quality degradation of petroleum products caused by long-term storage. JPEC is also studying quality management systems for achieving prolonged storage.
